LEAGUE INFORMATION & RULES
Welcome to the Sherwood Sports Men’s Basketball League! We want to provide a place where you can enjoy a time of recreation and fellowship as you grow closer to God through the game of basketball.
Jamboree Cookout on May 21st
- Let’s kick off our men’s league with a night of food and fun where you can bring your family and fellowship with the community!
Season Dates:
May 28th- July 2nd
(Tuesdays from 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM)
TEAM FORMAT
- Captains are pre-selected and teams will be drafted by the league director.
- Teams will consist of 7-8 players per team.
- Cost will be $30 and that will include your jersey.
- Each team will be play 2 games per night.
GAME FORMAT
- We will have a 12 minute game with a running clock until the last minute of the game, should the score be between 10 points.
- Initial possession of the game and overtime will be determined by captains playing one round of rock, paper, scissors.
- All dead balls will be checked in at the top of the key. The ball is not considered live until it is passed in.
- If a game ends in a tie, overtime periods will be played via sudden death for 1 minute with the first team to score being the winner.
SUBSTITUTIONS
- A substitution may be made at any time that the ball is not in play. Play clock will not be stopped for subs.
OFFICIATING
- Since this is a self-officiated league, captains will be responsible for resolving fouls or calls in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Non-shooting fouls are checked at half court and the ball must be passed in to start the possession.
- Shooting fouls will be administered as follows:
- 2pt shots: Count one point and take 1 free throw that is live on the miss.
- 3pt shots: Count two points and take one free throw that is live on the miss.
- And 1: The additional point is counted without any free throw being shot.
- Although individual and team fouls will not be tracked, captains can pull a player from the game who is fouling an excessive amount for a period of time.
ACTIONABLE OFFENSES
Following offenses may result with leadership team asking you to sit the rest of the game:
- All jewelry must be removed before a player is eligible to play that game. This includes wedding bands, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc.
- Reckless fouls (No attempt made on the ball)
- Excessive taunting with the intent to embarrass, ridicule, or demean others.
- Unsporting behavior by any non-player on the player side of the court.
- Provoking altercations and making physical contact with other players (e.g. pushing or throwing the ball at players).
- The use of foul language.
EJECTIONABLE OFFENSES
The following offenses can lead to being ejected from the game or removal from the league:
- Violent conduct or serious foul play (May or may not result in injuring a player)
- Leaving the bench to engage in a confrontation.
- Extreme unsporting behavior or committing particularly despicable behavior including spitting at another player, persistent use of extremely abusive language, and forcible contact.
